Initially, the fort walls, turrets, and stables of the Fort were constructed around the beginning of the 16th century solely for the purpose of war. A new zenana or ladies residence was later constructed in the mid-18th century, when the royal family moved in this. The pride of Khimsar today is still that fort which is around 450 years old, currently serves as home to the 18th, 19th, and 20th generations of the Khimsar thakurs. Now a classy heritage hotel, the Khimsar fort is open to visit from 10:00 am to 05:30 pm.
